- Abstract: This project deals with the evaluation of the energy and economic effectiveness of biomethane production and utilization in the Czech Republic, based on a fuel cycle approach, that is, technologies used for production of end-use energy products, as Biomethane and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant - heat and electricity production. The energy effectiveness approach is based on the calculation of the net energy effect resulting from the use of 1 ha of agricultural land while the economic effectiveness concerns parameters of the individual elements of the fuel cycle. The input data needed for this approach was maize silage production potential, which was developed using a detailed spatial (GIS) methodology and applied in two different regions (Hodonín and Strakonice), regarding their climate and soil conditions, and for two different scenarios, current situation of biodiversity of crops on agricultural lands of both regions (2014) and future target of variability of crops on agricultural lands (2050). It is possible to see that biomethane production is more effective than CHP, with lower specific production costs and higher energy efficiency
